Participatory Design Process

For the children’s bedroom, it was decided to involve the children (with the consent of the parents) to conceptualize the filler slab pattern. A much-simplified template was provided to the children (aged 5 & 7 years) to conceptually prepare a filler slab pattern. During the process, the children actively interacted with each other and tried to value each other’s viewpoints. Finally, the children incorporated a pattern that was a fine balance of perspectives of both the children.

This pattern was refined further to facilitate the construction and was successfully implemented on-site. This particular participatory process provided valuable insights of the user's perceptions and helped immensely in the process of co-creating and co-designing that brings a sense of belongingness to the end-users.
